Bass Chasin in Ohio Nimisila report for Memorial weekend (Saturday)

Once again we venture forth on another weekend trip! We hit the lake with sweatshirts and coats. Rain gear in the boat , just in case, the weather man gets it right. They did ,but we were on the way home for a change instead of in the boat. Another beautiful day in northeast Ohio as usual. Conditions are cool as we launch and wind is picking up. Temp is supposed to be mid fifties and chill factor sucks! Picture is worth a thousand words.

We started running our usual pattern of shoreline and coves wondering if we would find the same areas holding the fish or if things had changed. It proved to be true as the day progressed. All in all we caught ten bass which sounds great but the biggest went maybe a pound and a half and all but three or so were caught in ONE area that has produced each trip. Why this one area? It appears the small perch hold there as my son-in- law caught one on a small crank. Find the baitfish and you find the bass as always!!!!

It appears that at least on this lake, a favorite, that they holds in certain areas when cool fronts move in. All but three were caught on firetiger Rattlin Rapala's in the 6-9 foot range along the side by the dam toward the roadway bridge cut through as previously described. We went back a second time after the sun at last broke through, towards 6:00, to get the last two of the day. The rest were by the main island in shallows and plastics got them. One was so small when I set the hook I threw him into the boat on a fly!

Having bass fished Ohio since the 70's I guess this has been some of the wierdest weekend weather, I can remember, at least in recent years. They said it made 63 somewhere around the time the sun broke through. Average is 72 this time of year! I will leave you with the thoughts of one guy launching at Berlin, in hunting gear with hood up, in the rain." I would rather fish in the cold and rain than have to be at work today." Sure works for Bass Chasin in Ohio!
