Bass Chasin in Ohio report for 2001 at Mogadore
Hit this lake Saturday the 4th of August for the once a year trip. Hot as hell. Still a pretty lake to look at but our previous assessment from last year still holds true. We did get 9 bass but only one a 17 inch fish was noteworthy. The lake is very uniform in depths with slow sloped islands without any notable points off them. They may be there but we couldn't find any with the finder in any depth. Best pattern seemed to be close to shore with deeper water near there. Looked for steep banks and 10- 12 foot depths. This sounds easy but not on this lake. Had to go all over to search them out.
Lots of live bait guys and several we saw left with baskets of various crappie and perch for their efforts. Many were working one area we passed by. This seems to be the lakes strength but not our way of fishing. Like many Akron lakes, a permit for $8.00 is required. The lake is 900 acres and permits can be obtained on route 43 as well as boat rentals which run about $20.00 a day. Numerous launch areas and boats can be docked there. We are not sure of cost for this.
We got results with blue fleck from Berkley and 1/8th ounce sinkers as well as small crankbaits from Strike King and just one on a spinner bait in and around weeds near shore.
Happy hunting at Mogadore and tight lines from BCIO!
