Our favorite bass lake in 2006.

.
My son-in law gets lucky once in a while too. Note Wellington tower in background to left near fairgrounds

We thought a review of this years 2006 lake was  in order.

This is a great lake if you have the confidence to fish deep. If you work the shoreline this is a tough lake. Best depths are teens and in the heat the 20's.The biggest we saw caught was 6.5 pounds and I would have bet it would go an easy 8#'s. But the scale said different and it is more accurate than me for sure. It was released I am happy to add! If you like tubes this may be am advantage here. We did well with them just Texas rigged. Camo color seemed a winner and smoke colors worked as well. You will find the average fish here worth catching and 2-3 are not unusual. This is digital scale weighed. NO guessing by us. We carry a Normark. I bet guys would guess 4-5.

See you there in 2007

      Lake No.1 for 2006!

WELLINGTON Upground.  This beauty is off  Route 58 south of Wellington

We started fishing this lake many years ago and it is more than a favorite now since its 2006 results. Even through the heat, this baby produced. We not only had great days there in 2006 for count but average size fish will match any lake we fished. In 2006 it produced every time out and is well worth a trip. If you don't like open water hunting, it is not for you. Shorelines are void of cover and most fish are in open and often deep water but nice size bass as I said above. It has nice varieties of depths and THE CLEAREST WATER anywhere you will go. All the more of a challenge!

Lake habits: Weeds are there but under control. Not much hair grass or choaking surface weeds. Weak shoreline with a short distance to deep water  20+ feet quickly along shore. North side goes 30 or better. Rocky areas in the shallows as well as the depths Baitfish of every kind abound and most of all perch which the bass we chase, seem to love for dinner. If you shore fish it the big cats are there and loads or sunfish for kids. Pike are here in small numbers but we had a good size one along side which never was boated. No wire leader! Being up ground it can get nasty in high winds and is  cold as hell in cool weather. Electric only with motors up.

Ideas to try: We run a fish finder to monitor depths, structure, weeds and such. If you don't, see our articles page for ideas other than marking the anchor rope.
